Cleaning

Good evening and I hope everyone had fabulous day. Things are starting to get back to normall here in the Hurlburt house hold. Got ALLOT of holiday cleaning done today but still have a long way to go and a TON of Christmas decorations to put away. As I type this I have a small but potentially large mound of laundry waiting and an endless supply of dirty dishes to complete. But because I have made this a priority for 2013 I get some down time before I tackle those. YAY! :D

My Pinterest activity today was not as exciting as I had hoped but yet still got the job done. Which is a good thing. Today I cleaned my shower head and sink nozzles, with white vinegar and baking soda. Please note that I would recommend this t be an over night process. It is however sorta cool with the foaming action when you pour the baking soda into the vinegar. I would highly recommend letting your little ones watch they would probably LOVE it. Here are the thing you will need:

- Rubber Band or Twisty Tie
- 1 Cup White Vinegar
- 1/3 Cup Baking Soda
- Plastic Bag

I would recommend taking a photo of your cruddy victim before you attack it with this stuff. Here is my before photo of the shower head.

(Horrible I know... why in the world would I wash my head with that!)

First: Pour vinegar in bag over a sink. Carefully pour baking soda into bag with vinegar. YE BE WARNED! There will be an awesome foaming action when you do this.
(The foam had died down some when I took this, it was very quick.)

Second: Secure bag over shower head with your rubber band or twisty tie. Be sure it is submerged in the baking soda/vinegar solution.

Third: Let shower head soak in solution. My source says overnight or for at least 2-3 hours. If you have a scummy shower head as I do I would highly recommend overnight.

Fourth: Wash off shower head before you use it. Last thing we want is excess vinegar and baking soda on us while we are trying to get clean.

Then take your after picture. When I took my baggy down and cleaned off the shower head I didn't feel like I had much of a difference at all. Until I viewed my before and after photos. I sill don't feel a wow effect BUT it definitely put a huge dent in it. I will be following up on cleaning it again in the next couple of days to get it perfect.

I have also heard that Vinegar and Baking Soda work well with flushing drains. Just put in the soda and pour the vinegar, then watch it foam. Make sure to wait a few minutes before running water down the drain.

Well hope this works for ya'll and good night!

10 Simple Step to Keep Your House Clean

Well I didn’t make it in time to make a post for yesterday so I guess I will post two for today. Yesterday I did a simple cleaning check list to help me stay on task at cleaning my home. Sometimes I feel I have dug myself into a hole that I can’t get out of with the mess in my house. This check list worked real well at helping me stay on task and see the light at the end of the tunnel. I also stayed up until 4 am the night before cleaning, which probably played a part in helping me check things off the list. This 10-step program is a simple way to keep up with all your house work and still enjoy life

1. TRASH: Take a trash bag or in my case I used my kitchen trash can, and go throughout the whole house and pick up trash and empty other trash buckets.
It took 2 trash bags!

2. Laundry: Take a laundry basket and collect all the dirty laundry left on the floor and in clothes hampers. Start a load. Try to keep mixing it up throughout the day to get it all done, but if not, that is OK at least you have done one load of laundry.
(Dirty Laundry)
(DON’T SKIP FOLDING!)
(A little helpful tip, I use a basket to put all my miss match socks that way when the mate turns up in the was I just grab it out of the basket)

3. Dishes:Collect all the dirty dishes in the house and clean them. You could do this in stages

Stage 1. Fill sink and soak dishes
(Stage one complete, Going to next step)

Stage 2. Wash and set out to dry
(NEXT!)

Stage 3. Put away

And tackle them in between the other steps.

4. Toys: Again, use a container of some type (laundry basket works), gather and set aside. Some of my toys were still in boxes that haven’t been opened from Christmas.
(There were actually more toys than I had expected)

5. Beds: Take everything off the beds then make the beds. Take any extra blankets and fold them.

6. Kitchen and Dining Area:Clear counter tops and dining table. Sweep floors and wipe down kitchen appliances (top to bottom). This would also be a good time to put those drying dishes away.
(Cleared Counter off and about to scrub it down)
(Nice and clean!)
7. Living Room:Finish clearing what’s left on the floor, dust and wipe, and sweep any non-carpeted areas.

8. Bathroom and Any Other Extra Rooms: Finish clearing floor. Do a quick spray and wipe down. Organize any

9. Bedrooms:Put all previously gathered toys away. Pick up anything that is left and put away clean folded clothes.

10. Vacuum:Lastly vacuum the entire house.

These steps have been organized from most to least important so it’s OK if they aren’t ALL finished at the end of the day. Allow yourself to feel accomplished even if you only complete a few steps.

Yesterday I was able to get 1-7 done. I started on 8 but I had to leave the house to go a crop. But I got everything cleaned now all I have to do is vacuum and then I’m on schedule for completing my To-do List for next week, taking Christmas Decorations down.
